“Deep”, perhaps the word most associated with the career of Fred P, and for once, an accurate portrayal. Eleven albums, innumerable releases and decades of DJing into his career, the New York-turned-Berlin resident continues to push further into his own sound, craft and mind. 2018 saw Fred P bring his acclaimed Soul People Music outlet to an end and embrace a new label, Perpetual Sound. For those fortunate enough to be present for one of Fred‘s cathartic, physical and spiritual DJ sets, the dance floor is not just a place for enjoyment, but for potential. His futurist approach is inspired as much by the scene’s bonafide revolutionaries, from Francois K to Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia, as his own futurist philosophy, weaved together from a glorious patchwork inspired by an ever-expanding network or thinkers, collaborators and international encounters. No stranger to our home, we welcome Fred P back to the Globus decks tonight. Returning to Tresor a year after his last appearance, Eric Cloutier has established himself as an influential underground figure purely off the back of his DJ sets. Known to be able to tease and control crowds for extended periods of time without resorting to cheap thrills or lowest common denominator kicks, since first emerging in 1996 the acclaimed native Detroiter has been a resident at some of the most knowing venues around the world. House, dub and techno are all fair game for Cloutier, and be they deep and driving tracks or harder hitting selections, each one bridges the gap between the old and the new in seamless and unpredictable ways. Amsterdam-based Titia leaves no room for rest whilst playing her energetic selections with her sets being a well-tuned balanced blend between old and new releases. Titia always picks her records full of funk. Adding to that the fact that she’s a crew member at the infamous Clone Records, it’s safe to say Titia knows her stuff. Downstairs in Tresor: those familiar with Oliver Ho’s fearsome and often brutal futurist early EPs on Blueprint and his more recent avant techno/house Raudive material will be aware of his ability to inject a dark narrative into functional electronics. With Broken English Club, he delivers monotone vocals and shards of live instrumentation over stuttering beats and bleak synths. The blank-stared, pin-point-focused electronics and layers of noise betray no/wave and post punk influences, dragging together industrial experimentation and pitch-black techno, as fans experienced during a Berlin Atonal Festival appearance. His sophomore album, The English Beach on L.I.E.S. was released in 2017. The album saw Broken English Club bringing together the industrial and minimal wave elements of earlier releases, while adding EBM and techno flavors to the mix. Also having appeared at Berlin Atonal, Veronica Vasicka is from the U.S. and is founder of Minimal Wave Records. Inspired by the music she gathered for her weekly two-hour radio show at East Village Radio, Vasicka launched Minimal Wave Records in 2005. She specializes in obscure electronic music, especially new wave, Italo disco and house music. Her focus is on bringing rare recordings to the public via the record label, as well as her sublabel Cititrax, which features newer bands and classic house reissues. Vasicka hosts a weekly radio show on East Village Radio and also DJs bimonthly in various clubs around New York City. Since moving to Rotterdam in 2011, Marsman, the DJ, radio host, record label and store owner has become one of the hardest working figures in the city’s long-established underground electronic music scene. In 2015 he established the Pinkman and Charlois labels to champion artists – both new and established – whose music moved him emotionally. Having toured internationally, Marsman had begun his DJing journey a decade ago, quickly earning a reputation as a top-notch radio host, podcaster and mix-maker whose fluid and eclectic sets became essential listening for underground electronic music enthusiasts around the world. Marc Ash debuted on our new faces night in 2017, he is co-founder of Crimewave (former bi-monthly party) which since 2012 has brought a selection of minimal-synth and avantgarde electronic performers for the first time in Milan. Drawing largely his aesthetic and artistic inspiration from early new wave and dirty industrial as well as from electronic pioneers, Marc Ash is active both as DJ and producer, with his self named project (obscure electronics, after a synthwave beginning) and his moniker Plovdiv, more techno-dark beats driven. He’s currently working on his own label “Blacksilk Records”, which aims to bring out the best of hidden experimental and obscure electronic projects.
