Beschreibung zur Veranstaltung:
Die Performance konzentriert sich auf die Frage, wie das Zusammenspiel von Musiker und Instrument in einen musikalisch-audiovisuellen Kontext übertragen werden kann. Ausgangspunkt und Grundmaterial dieses Werks sind mithilfe von Makro-Linse und digitaler Vollbild-Videokamera entstandene Nahaufnahmen von Saitenvibrationen und Fingerbewegungen am Koto-Instrument. Die Aufführung besteht aus einer Videoarbeit, die am Laptop verarbeitet wird und dem Koto-Spiel in Echtzeit, das durch audiovisuelle Einspielungen ergänzt wird.

This performance focuses on how the movements of a player and an instrument can be transformed and modulated into a musical audio-visual context.
In past works, such as Figure in Movement II for piano and real-time audio-visual processing technique, Shintaro Imai has explored and developed his notion of the performing motion of instrumentalists as dance, choreographed by musical scores and the instrument itself.
In Figures in Motion extremely detailed images of Maya Kimura?s fingers in motion and the koto strings vibrating, filmed using a macro lens and a full frame digital video camera, provide the departure point and base materials. The performance consists of a fixed video work, the rebuilding of this video work on a laptop, and real-time audio-visual processing of the koto being played.
